10 Reasons You Should Follow Your Dreams!

Most people have dreams and the bigger they are the better!

Maybe you dream of owning a Fortune 100 company or building a luxury home in the South of France. Or maybe you dream of a destination wedding on a remote island or your Indie’s band winning the X-Factor!

Having dreams is one thing but following them and making them come true is another thing entirely!

When I was a little girl, I lived in the North of England with my parents and 3 siblings. My father took my sister and I to visit the Caribbean for the first when I was 10 and that was it, I fell in love with the place.

As I grew up, I dreamt of living and raising my own family there and the more I held onto my dream, the more real it became until one day, it came true!

Dare to Dream

And that’s the reason I wanted to write this blog. Mainly as a way to encourage you to follow your own dreams, despite the hardship and challenges along the way. And trust me, anything that is worth having is definitely going to come with some challenges.

In fact tough times are part of the course but as you overcome them, you will see, it’s also the stuff that makes your dreams come true!

If I didn’t follow my dreams where would I be? I guess I can’t know for sure but I do know where I wouldn’t be!

I wouldn’t be living in a beautiful rainforest surrounded by birds and butterflies. I wouldn’t have been able to take my kids to school everyday and give them the best of me  And I wouldn’t have been able to take a 55-minute drive to my local beach that just happens to be one of the most beautiful sights around.

So I’m glad that I followed my dreams and here are 10 reasons you should follow yours.

10 Reasons You Should Follow Your Dreams!

  1. Dreams Keep You Alive!

Can you image how dull life would be if you didn’t have dreams? Dreams are the magical motivators that keep you moving forward. They ignite your passion and excitement. They put a pep in your step and a pitter-patter in your heart when you dream of their vast possibilities.

  1. Unlock Your Heart’s Desires

Have you ever wanted to do something so badly it pulls at your heart strings? I believe dreams are the keys that unlock your destiny and help you to find your life’s purpose.

They are the roots that plant themselves in your heart and follow you around from childhood yearning to flower.

  1. Bridge The Gap

Every thing that makes up our material world started off as a dream in somebody’s mind. A jet plane flying across the sky began as a glimmer in the minds of Orville and Wilbur Wright. And Alexander Graham Bell would have never heard the telephone ring if it were not for the pursuance of his dreams. Dreams bridge the gap between the unreal and the real and makes the journey worthwhile.

  1. Defines The Human Spirit

Have you ever met someone who doesn’t have a dream? They go through the motions of life and mundane is the order of their day. Their presence seems to fade in to the background of life.

Your dream is the vehicle that drives your resolve. Going after your dreams stretches you beyond the norm and forces you to engage your skills and exploit your character to the very end. Giving up, is never an option. When you follow your dream it reveals the strength and tenacity of the human spirit.

  1. You Never Forget The Things You Regret

‘Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails’. Explore. Dream. Discover. ~Author Unknown

My father loved to tell stories about all the things he did in his life. But as he grew in to an old man he mostly regretted the things he didn’t do. I could see the sadness in his eyes.

You should follow your dreams just so you can say ‘I did it’! Even if it doesn’t work out the way you hoped, at least you tried. You won’t be plagued with regrets and mumblings of ‘if only’.

And what could be worse than having an unrealized dream stuck in the vestibules of ‘wondering’? ‘I wonder where I would be…’ ‘I wonder if it would’ve worked…’

The torment of the unknown has got to be far worse than facing the uncertainty of a calculated risk.

  1. Leave Your Legacy

Each time you follow your dreams, you leave a footprint behind. Your children have something to follow. And even if you don’t have children, your friends, family, co-workers or perfect strangers who happen to hear about your journey, will follow in your footsteps.

When I left the cold climates of London town for the shores of the Caribbean all those years ago, there were many challenges. I was a single parent with two little kids and had never lived in a foreign country before.

But following my dream left more than good times on Maracas Beach! Whether they know it or not, I planted a seed in my children that in time to come, will blossom in to their own qualities of determination and courage. They may wonder about their sense of adventure and boldness but I know, Mum’s the way! 🙂

  1. You Get To Do What You Love♥

You do what you love and love what you do!

You’re not stuck in a 9 to 5,

wondering if you’re still alive

because the day’s dragging and isn’t almost 4?

damn, you’re thinking, I can’t take this any more!

No no, this is not you! Because when you follow your dreams life is so much more magical.?

Where’s the boss? Oh I am the boss! Your dreams have created a lifestyle where you take charge and actually get to enjoy.

But the road is not easy! Anyone who has ever followed their dream will tell you about the peaks and the cold, lonely valleys. The laughter and the blood, sweat and tears. The highs and the slithering belly lows!

But they’ll also tell you, it was worth it! Because you get to do YOU, everyday and infuse it into your work, project or business.

You love what you do and the best part of all, following your dream magically aligns itself to your life’s purpose, you are living your joy and life has more meaning.

  1. Dreams Are The Sparks Of Creativity

Have you ever met anyone who followed their dreams without tapping into the creative forces of their being?

A dancer moves to the rhythm of her soul.

An artist paints with colours untold

A writer conveys meaning into words

A composer creates from the chorus of the birds

You should follow your dream to express your creativity. To produce great work, great music, great art, or anything great that has your name on it.

If you are an amazing cook, creativity will add to your flavor. If hair styling is your thing, your creative flair will compliment any cut or crop. It doesn’t matter what you do, when you follow your dreams, your creative nature is never far behind.

  1. Dreams Expire!

As you get older time seems to go by much faster! You wonder where has it all gone.

Some may say that it’s never too late but actually dreams do expire. Maybe it’s not so much that the dream expires but your youthfulness and zest for life does.

You’re older now and for some, it’s time to pack away fanciful thoughts of what could have been. It’s not necessarily that your life is over but you wonder where would you find the energy, the enthusiasm and the know how at this late stage?

You should follow your dreams so that they don’t expire. In fact the continuous pursuance of your dreams is what keeps you young. You don’t stop dreaming because you grow old, you grow old because you stop dreaming.

I urge you to keep dreaming and reaching for the stars. It’s how you make new and colourful memories. It’s how to ensure your dreams never expire.

10.  You Owe It To Yourself And To The World

As you follow your dreams you enliven parts of your being and tap in to resources you never even knew you had! You owe it to yourself to find the treasures buried within. As you unearth these riches, you sparkle and shine from a very special place.

When you follow your dreams you are a better person for it. When you’re better, the world is better and it benefits greatly from the gifts and talents you chose not to conceal but to make manifest from the heart of your dreams!

I would love to help you make your dreams come true.  As a Life Coach I play a role in co-creating  with you to set and achieve your goals.  Learn more here and chose a package that suits your needs.

Dare to dream and to be bold

Dare to tell the stories untold

Dare to be who you are

And glisten up there amongst the stars…

All of the reasons you have listed appear to be important. But when people try to make things happen, and they have not developed a true understanding of the commitment, that when things fall apart.

  2. Michee says:

Thank you Ted for your comments, people can so often bite off more than they can chew and before you know it, they’re overwhelmed. One step at a time, that’s what I say!

  3. Beautifully written inspiring post. Timing is ideal as spring, rather than the calendar New Year, is more inviting to thing of rebirth, reaching out, following one’s dream. As a retired career counselor, I sadly heard way too many stories of people slowly losing hope and not enjoying life because they were unhappy at work. I see it in many elderly around me- regrets, living in memories of the past & not living a present life. When I retired I had no plans how I would spend my time. I allowed myself the freedom to explore activities and fell in love with beading. People often ask me when I will stop my business and I ask why? Unfortunately, people think when you are 75 I should take it easy which means sit on the couch & watch tv.

  4. Wonderful and very fluid post on the power of following our dreams, Michelle! It reminded me of a great Albert Einstein quote: “The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all the facts.” And isn’t this the truth from a man who was also known for his brilliant scientific mind. Yes, dreams are the fuel that propel us to take actions and to allow the best parts of ourselves to be shared with the world. Dreaming without action is unfortunately what so many people fall prey to, especially when they are needing to support a family and make a living. I believe we are in a time now on our planet, when more and more people are realizing that there is more to life than the nine to five they have accepted and people are finding inventive ways to live their passions and be more independent and entrepreneurial. Your passion always shows in your writing and it is a pleasure to “know” you and read your words. I imagine you are in person, exactly as you are on the page. Like you, I do hope we get to connect in person sometime, somewhere! Thanks for the inspirational post today.

  5. Michee says:

You are so kind Beverley and similarly I can feel your vibration through your words and connect with the sincerity of your heart. We are definitely seeing a shift in the way people work and a new drive towards living at a deeper and more meaningful level. In my own experience, dreams have taken me to the highest mountains and the deepest oceans. I wrote a similar quote to the great Einstein which goes as follows: ‘It’s not what you know, it’s what you do, with what you know that defines your life’ Michelle H.A Williams. And so knowing all the facts in the world is worthless unless you use them to to realise your dreams. That’s when life becomes awesome. Thank you so much for your comments Beverley, you are a special lady, I look forward to us connecting sometime, somewhere! 🙂

  6. Michee says:

Absolutely no! You’re doing what you love and it shows in your beautiful jewellery. You ARE the epitome of living your dreams and you do it with passion and style. I too see many people give up on their dreams and wilt. They pace up and down mentally as well as physically trying to feel something that has meaning, when not much really does! I think we should never stop having dreams no matter how small or big. They enliven us and get us excited about life. I’d much rather live in this mode as I get older than the pain of the mundane. Thank you for your words of encouragement Roslyn. 🙂

  7. Deb says:

Really love this post – dreams are such an inspiration – whether we’re 15 or 75. Whether we’re artists, accountants, adults, children, dreams keep us moving forward. AND – I love it when I hear about people who achieve their dreams and keep on keeping on. The loftier the dream, the better===>

  8. Michee says:

Thank you Deb, you’re right we are all deserving of dreams and more so, to make them come true! There’s no upper or lower age limit and they stretch across all demographics and diversities. Achieving your dreams brings magic and sparkle to your life! I appreciate your comments. 🙂

  9. Tina says:

This is beautiful. I’m a dreamer (most Sagittarians are) and a lot of my dreams are fulfilled through hard work and some are even filled through luck. One will be filled next week, when I see my high school boyfriend whom I haven’t seen in 40 years!

  10. So much more to say, I had to leave another comment. Anyone who knows me knows I’m very down to earth, practical, and it is time for authenticity. When I turned my hobby into a business 7 years ago, I was not in touch with my dream. When my daughter joined me 6 years ago is when the dream started forming. As I saw others appreciation for our jewelry the dream grew. Now, for the past year since going online, the dream has shifted creating challenges I could not anticipate. They shape and mold the dream and so it lives.

  11. Michee says:

Thanks for sharing Tina. I’m reminded of the saying ‘Dreams betray many but hard work betrays none.’ It is wonderful to have elaborate dreams but as you say, hard work assures they’re fulfilled! I’m so happy your dreams have come true and very excited that you’re seeing your high school boyfriend next week! I’d love to know how that turns out, keep me updated. I had a similar experience recently where I met up with my first love after 25+ years. It was not romantic but we had a great time catching up! Have fun! 🙂

  12. Michee says:

Thanks for sharing so much of you Roslyn. Your story is remarkable and I really hope others are encouraged by your outstanding achievements and desire to follow your dream. When we’re doing what we love, it creates unlimited possibilities and before we know it, we’re submerged in a life full treasure even beyond our imagination! 🙂

  13. Renee says:

Thank you Michelle for this beautiful reminder that dreams and our passions define who we are in life, our legacies, and the quality of our time here on Earth. Lovely way of expressing how wonderful pursuing our dreams can be.. Best 🙂

  14. Michee says:

Love the way you put that Renee, thank you. Our passions do indeed define who we are, they’re kind of like the beacons that help us navigate ourselves through life! 🙂

  15. Hi Michee,

Yes, we should always follow our dreams and your 10 reasons here will help you do just that, thank you for sharing these valuable tips!!

  16. Lovely post, we definitely need to follow our dreams and remember to dream. Life can get in the way, the day to day busy, and we forget our dreams. I know right now, the day to day can be overwhelming, running a business and caring for my parents. Thank you for the reminder to take time to dream.

  17. Yvonne Brown says:

There is nothing worse than watching an elderly person throw away their dreams for the sake of feeling like it is too late. As long as we are on this earth, the time is our gift to use it well. Thanks for this inspiration!

  18. Sharise says:

Another inspiring blog! All of your blogs speak to my spirit. I was just telling someone how easy it is for us to lose sight of our dreams; especially when you’re caught in the matrix of a routine. Two points from your list stood out to me: ” Wanting to do something so bad it pulls at your heart strings” and “Going through n the motions of life and mundane is the order of their day.” If we don’t build our dreams someone will hire us to build their dreams!
    Thanks for sharing!

  19. Cinda says:

I really enjoyed this post – particularly this evening as I just shared my life story “0 to 65 in 60 minutes or less” – actually went longer than 60 minutes because audience engaged me in questions after – why? because they were impressed that I still had so many dreams and plans to live to them even though I have done so much already in my life. I like how you laid all this out. I’ve bookmarked it as I’m inclined to share it with others.

  20. As soon as you open up to the possibility of achieving your dreams, it takes flight! Now you`re open to seeing differently, doing uncomfortable things, getting out of your own way… and things get exciting. Life gets EXCITING! YAY!!! I love how you presented this in your article. Good job! 🙂

  21. Michee says:

You’re very welcome Joan, be sure to follow yours! 🙂

  22. Michee says:

Yes Heather, life sure get in the way but dreams are like anchors that remind us what life is really about. Thinking about you in these challenging times and sending an avalanche of love for you and your parents 🙂

  23. Michee says:

You’re welcome Yvonne, thank you for such great insights. You are absolutely right, it’s never too late until we take our last breath. Life is the gift, enjoy it everyday. 🙂

  24. Michee says:

I appreciate your comments Sharise, I’m glad your spirit is touched by mine. When something is for you, it just won’t leave you alone! It pulls at your heart strings and bangs down your door until your dream is realised! Who wants to go through the motions when you can dive in and submerge yourself in the full glory of your dreams! 🙂

  25. Michee says:

The value of dreaming cannot be overemphasized. It is a means of achieving the value of life prior to self-actualization. Analyze your dreams carefully. Do they make you what you would like to be? Live your dreams!
