Trans Fat

When hydrogen is added to vegetable oil it produces Trans Fat. Trans Fat is a cost effective way to increase the flavour stability, texture and shelf life of processed foods.

Some common foods which are high in Trans Fat:

  • French fries, fried foods, fast foods including pizza
  • Pastries, potato chips, doughnuts, cookies/ biscuits
  • Margarine, Vegetable shortening
  • Breakfast cereals

Trans Fats have been scientifically proven to increase your risk of coronary heart disease.  They increase the LDL (bad) cholesterol levels while reducing the amount of HDL (good) cholesterols in your bodyTrans Fats are a major contributor to clogging your arteries and are closely associated with conditions such as:

Make no mistake if it’s a rat, it’s labelled Trans Fat!

It appears on food labels disguised as ‘hydrogenated’ or ‘partially hydrogenated oil’.

Join the campaign to ban Trans Fat:

The Paleo Diet may be one way to enjoy food minus trans fat plus plan healthy meals using good oils instead.  You may or may not be a paleo dieter but either way you are going to love their new cookbook that is cooking up a storm! It’s called the Paleo Recipe Book.

The Paleo Recipe BookThe paleo diet is a back to basics approach to health.  And when I say back, I mean way back to the human diet 2 million years ago.

That was before the age of agriculture when we only ate natural food our bodies could process.

The greedy food corporations that produce food-like products weren’t around in those days.

There was nothing hidden in food back then unlike the food industry’s  hidden agenda today to exploit and expand the corporate dollar at your expense.

‘Big food’ equals Big dollars for them but factory food does nothing for the nations health that is spiralling out of control!

Paleo and processed are two plates NEVER served at the same table. The paleo diet is the only diet that our bodies are actually designed for. It provides the right kind of nourishment so that your body is consistently satisfied and energized to live a healthier life.

In a nutshell the paleo diet says no to grains such as wheat, corn and oats. Vegetable oils, sugar, legumes, diary products, processed foods and preservatives.

And a big yes to meat, fruit and veg, shellfish and seafood, good fats, nuts and lots more to liven up your lunch, other meals and snacks!

So of course we are more than happy to share the new Paleo Recipe Book with you.  They’ve put together over 350 mouth-watering easy to cook paleo recipes. Delicious and to die for are definitely two plates you’ll find on this paleo table!

High Fructose Corn Syrup

This sweet food additive is not so sweet for your health. It is the cheap replacement for sugar that is slowly poisoning your body.

High Fructose Corn Sugar (HFCS) is produced through a process which changes the form of sugar in corn starch from glucose to fructose. Its serves as a sweeter and a preservative by extending the shelf-life of processed foods.

But do Beware!… consuming too much HFCS is closely linked to conditions such as:

Trans fat, high fructose corn syrup, soy, soy products genetically modified organism

HFCS is found in so many processed foods it is pretty difficult to avoid it. Foods such as:

  • Breakfast cereal, snack foods
  • Soda, fruit drinks
  • Sauces, spreads and dips, condiments including tomato ketchup, salad dressing, jams
  • Processed meats like sausage and ham
  • Yoghurt and the list goes on and on and on.

In fact it is estimated that HFCS is contained in more than 40% of all foods. Its consumption has increased in the U.S to more than 1000% between 1970 and 1990.

The danger with HFCS is that the body metabolizes it differently from sugar. And if you are still not convinced about the dangers of this food and the effect it has on your health consider this: Research carried out by the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) found that High Fructose shortened the life span of laboratory mice from the normal 2 years to 5 weeks!

So if you are not already on High Alert for High Fructose Corn Sugar, you should be! Look out for it on your food labels as glucose-fructose syrup, corn sugar, crystalline fructose which are some of its dark deadly disguises.

Soy Products

Yes I know what you’re thinking… surely not Soy? But believe me when I say, there is no joy in Soy!

Even though Soy has been touted as a health food, let me make it very clear right here and now, IT CERTAINLY IS NOT! Soy contains:

  • Phytoestrogens

Phytoestrogens are plant based oestrogens that mimic the female hormone oestrogen in the body. These phytoestrogens can disrupt endocrine function. Equally concerning is that babies fed on infant soy formula are consuming the oestrogenic equivalent of 4 to 5 birth control pills per day.

  • Phytates

Phytic Acids are enzyme inhibitors that can block the uptake of essential minerals such as calciummagnesiumiron, especially zinc in the intestinal tract.

  • Soy disrupts your Thyroid

The phytoestrogens present in Soy have a goitrogenic effect. This means that they depress thyroid hormone production.

  • Soy contains Anti-Nutrients

Anti-nutrients are chemicals and compounds that prevent nutrients from being properly used by the body. Soybeans have one of the highest levels of anti-nutrients in any grain or legume.

You really need to get wise to the dangers of Soy and Soy products. Soy Protein Isolates which are found in meat substituted foods are of particular concern and should give you reason to leave this food well alone.

Boycott Soy and make it history on your shopping list!

Genetically Modified Foods

Genetically Modified foods are subject to a practice that changes their core genetic make-up.

Foods that are Genetically Modified can involve risks of unknown toxins and allergens never before seen in humans. Unfortunately there has not been enough research and testing to conclusively identify the risks but make no mistake you have every good reason to say no to GMO.

GMO crops are grown in the U.S on 135 acres and globally on more than 250 million acres and include the following crops:

There are tons of processed foods that are made from Genetically Processed Organism here are just a few:

  • Canola oil, cottonseed oil.
  • Popcorn, ice-cream.
  • Frozen pizza, frozen dinners, canned soup, dry cereal.
  • Soy sauce, aspartame sweetener.
  • Baby formula.

60 to 70 per cent of processed foods in the U.S are genetically modified so why should this food make you turn the other way?

  • Fear of the unknown! – Scientist do not know the long term effects of GMO
  • Let the Buyer Beware! – current determination by the USDA does not require GMO foods to labelled
  • Higher Levels of Oestrogen – Glyphosate which is applied to weeds causes higher plant oestrogen level
  • Unknown Genetic Effect on Humans – altering the DNA of a cellular structure may have a dangerous effect on humans and poses unknown risks

If we don’t know, doesn’t it make more sense to just say no?

Too many products initially approved by the FDA and thought to be safe and super wonderful were later recalled. Such products and also drugs were found to be a serious health risk and sometimes even fatal.

How much can the unsuspecting public rely on the FDA when it comes to food choices?

Do you really want to be a human guinea pig for the exploitation of these multi-million dollar corporations who produce unhealthy processed foods for no other reason than to maximise their profit at the expense of your health?

Sharing Self-Improvement promotes the healthy alternative to processed foods and encourages you to replace your diet with nutritionally dense Whole Food or food consumed on any healthy diet such as the Paleo Diet.

Although I don’t promote one particular diet over another, if it supports your overall health, it gets support from me! 🙂 Click below to get tons of delicious wholesome recipes today!
