The Value’s in the Vitamin
(and Minerals of course!)
Vitamins and Minerals
Minerals are inorganic substances or elements, which means they come from the soil and water and are absorbed by plants or eaten by animals.
Minerals help chemical reactions takes place within the body and they also contribute to overall health. Although some minerals are required in very small amounts they are still essential and play a vital role in metabolism. Minerals that are required in small amounts are referred as trace minerals and the body requires just a few milligrams or less per day.
Macro minerals are involved in bone and cellular structural functions as well as metabolic functions and are required in much larger quantities of several hundred milligrams per day.
Some vitamins are water soluble therefore cannot be stored by the body and are excreted after digestion. These vitamins in particular must be replenished daily. Other vitamins are fat soluble and are stored by the body mostly in fat tissues and by the liver. These vitamins are dissolved in fat, not water and because your body stores fat soluble vitamins, you do not require a daily supply of these. If you are supplementing with synthetic vitamins from the fat soluble group, you should be careful not to consume them excessively as this could be dangerous to your health.
Whole food and organic food are a naturally rich source of vitamins and minerals and where possible should be your first choice for a nutritionally well balanced diet. They are rich in vitamins and minerals and will boost the immune system, support normal growth and development and are essential for the functioning of all organs.
