  • Water boosts your Metabolism

A clinical research centre in Berlin found that after you drink 17 ounces of water your fat burning metabolism increase by 30% within 30 – 40 minutes of consumption. (Reported in the December 2003 issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism).

A Virginia Tech study found that a control group of dieters who drank 2 glasses of water prior to a meal lost 5 pounds more that the group that did not drink water prior to a meal. By drinking water before your meal will make you feel full and inclined to eat less.

  • Water = A Healthy Heart

Drinking a good amount of water could lower your risk of heart attack. A 6 year study published in the May 1 2002 American Journal of Epidemiology found that those who drink more than 5 glasses of water per day were 41% less likely to die from a heart attack during the study period than those who drank less than 2 glasses.

  • Water can replace sugary drinks

As part of your weight loss programme replacing sugary drinks such as coca cola and fruit juice with water will have a significant impact on your caloric intake. An 8oz glass of so-called healthy fruit juice can contain up 117 calories and 29g of sugar. Replacing 2 or 3 cups per day with water will make a considerable difference to your health and weight loss challenge.

Being dehydrated is the most common cause of daytime fatigue and can also cause muscle weakness and dizziness.

  • Water is a great cleanser

Water flushes out toxins and bacteria that would otherwise clog up your system and cause disease.

  • Water is the best treatment for water retention

When the body gets less water it perceives this as a threat to survival and begins to hold on to every drop. Then begins the process of storing water in extra cellular spaces outside the cell. This shows up as swollen ankles, feet, legs and hands. By drinking more water the body will soon release the water it retains.

Research has shown that drinking adequate amounts of water can reduce the risk of certain types of cancer including breast cancer. The risk of colon cancer is reduced by 45% and bladder cancer by 50%. It is due to water diluting the concentration of cancer-causing agents in the urine and shortening the time in which they are in contact with your bladder lining. So running to the toilet every 5 minutes can be a good thing!

  • Water is great for your skin

Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s most hydrated of them all?! And if you’ve got beautiful skin, then it’s probably you! Water helps to replenish skin tissues, moisturise and increase skin elasticity leaving you with a beautiful healthy glow!
